Oh wow! Im glad im able to contact you! Its easier if you have a blog because i dont have a youtube account. Not only are you one of my favorite scripters, i think youre a pretty nice guy! ^^ Anyways, youre making Daiyousei the Stage 4 boss right? Theres this song I found I think would fit her stage! But it seems I cant put the link here, heres the name for you to search it: 桐生 – 雨の降る夜に I used google translate and It said The Rainy Nightfall. I hope im helpful! Have a nice day Ozzy! :3

Greetings!! Thanks so much for the compliments!

I looked up the song name you have and I’ve actually discovered it myself a few years back. I believe that a better translation of the name would be Tonight’s Rainfall, and I agree with you that it’s an absolutely beautiful piece. But I have already decided that I will not be arranging it for EUB.

Putting aside the fact that I have already chosen a piece to arrange for Stage 4, there are a few reasons why I am not considering Tonight’s Rainfall:

1. I don’t believe it fits for a stage. Plenty of people clearly disagree with me (I’ve read their comments) but I do firmly believe that the song better fits a boss fight, albeit one with a bit less tension than usual. My partner Trickysticks and I both have this opinion.

2. I don’t believe that it should be used during the stage if Daiyousei is not present in it. The song definitely fits my idea of Daiyousei’s character, but the association to her would be somewhat lost if it were used in the stage before her, rather than when she’s actually present. Instead the association would mostly likely fall to Cirno instead, as it usually happens with stage themes and their respective midbosses.

3. The song is not fitting for Daiyousei’s character in the context of EUB’s story, even if I were to use it as a boss theme. One of the common side effects of the power reversal, as it becomes clear in stage 4, is an altered personality. It tends to manifest more in individuals who have the most drastic changes in power, which is why it does not appear to be afflicting some characters like Momiji and Aya. As the dialogue makes clear, Daiyousei in particular has gone from a shy, playful, and mischievous fairy to a stern, antagonistic fairy general dedicated to a fairy uprising.

All that said, I DID once envision a game starring the characters of Team ⑨ where Daiyousei would be a stage 5 boss in her normal state. THAT is where I wanted to use this theme. It’s not likely that that game will happen anymore, but if I ever come up with a similar opportunity you can bet that I will be arranging Tonight’s Rainfall for it.

Thanks for the ask! It’s things like this that keep me motivated and moving at a steady pace on development. I had fun writing this response, feel free to ask more questions any time! I love to interact with fans!

Hello hello~ I just wanted to say good luck with your project~ I also have a question, you mentioned you were going to sell this, are you afraid controversy will happen? (Since you’re giving it away for free digitally and not physically)

I’m not sure what exactly you mean. Do you mean controversy over the fact that I’m selling it at all or the fact that it will also be available for free online?

For the former, I’d answer by saying that there are plenty, and I do mean PLENTY, of Touhou derivative works out there are sold for actual money. The key is to keep within ZUN’s guidelines for fanworks, and one of those requests that fans only sell their Touhou works via traditional Doujin channels, like in Doujin shops or at events like Comiket and Reitaisai. While TouhouCon is far from as established as those examples, I feel that it, as a Touhou specific event, is a suitable place for distribution.

Furthermore, I want to mention that this project was never intended to turn a profit. I conceived this idea years ago with my partner because we wanted to make our own grand contribution to the fandom. As the project grew, I realized that I could make it better than I had ever hoped. The sale is simply to allow me to recoup a little bit of the fairly significant investment I’ve made for the game, mostly in the form of commissioned game assets. In that way, I think I am like most Doujin creators out there in that they sell their works only to make up some of the costs, not to make any real profits. True Doujin works are done as a hobby, after all.

Finally, as to the latter point, I’m intending for the physical sale of the game to be a way for people who want to support me and get the game a little early to do so right at the convention. I fully intend to inform each potential buyer of the fact that a free digital copy will be available later if they want to wait. Moreover, I believe that ZUN’s official guidelines forbid the monetary selling of fanworks online but allows free distribution, as long as it is done on a personal site and not through a large third party distributor. This thread has a lot of good discussions on this topic and it is what I’m basing my information on.

Thanks for the question! I hope my answer was satisfactory.

I played the first stage of EUB and I felt the controls were a bit clunky. Not by much, as one can get use to it, I suppose. Anyway it has an amazing OST, but is Rin a human or a demon in this game? Also will there be any other player characters or just an exclusive one character damaku?

(So sorry this took so long to answer, I swear Tumblr didn’t notify me or something)

Define clunky please, if you can, since the controls are identical to any other Danmakufu developed game and should be the same as any typical main series Touhou title.

Rin Satsuki in this game is a Kirin ( so not a human, but a youkai instead.

There will be two additional player characters. One additional player will be available with the upcoming 3 stage demo and the final one will be available with the release of the full game.

Thanks for the question
